A plant-based diet is one that is centered around food derived from plants including little to no processed food. Generally speaking, meals on a plant-based diet are centered around whole grains, legumes, beans, vegetables, fruit, and nuts, and seeds. A whole food plant-based diet focuses on eating these foods as close to their whole food form as possible. Technically speaking, a plant-based diet could include animal products in very small amounts (roughly 5% or less of caloric intake from animal products), hence the term plant-based.
